Cafe Escadrille first opened its doors in 1973 under the ownership of Robert W. Murray, who continues to own and run the restaurant to this day.
Cafe Escadrille’s name and spirit were inspired by the Lafayette Escadrille, a squadron of the French Air Service formed in April of 1916, prior to U.S. entry into World War I. The squadron was composed mainly of spirited and daring American volunteer fighter pilots who fought gallantly by day and relished fine food and drink at night. They left behind a legacy of spirited celebration that we honor to this day.

We source all of our ingredients using an ‘as-fresh-and-as-local-as-possible’ approach, with fish from the Santa Barbara Channel, produce from the surrounding countryside and meats and poultry from local micro-ranches. You’ll taste a difference.
We believe that Santa Barbara is producing some of the finest California Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Other locally produced varietals will surprise you with their quality, variety and approachability.
