MUSEUM DR. GUISLAIN GENT

Ghent > josef guislainstraat 43
In particular, the museum hopes to show that the concept of "madness" or "psychiatric disorder" was never an exclusively medical significance. It always involves an element of social and ideological construction. It is precisely these aspects that may determine how pervasive our attitude to mental illness. The manner of psychiatry - as part of Western medicine, in ensemble playing with the rest of society - to approach the man, is very crucial for the views it becomes dead and it faces as for the mode in which the knowledge produced is translated into social initiatives. The knowledge provided is also an invitation to you, our visitor, to deepen and enrich your general image of man.

Introd > villes dessus
The exhibition “Conserver le souvenir …Se souvenir pour conserver” wishes to acquaint people with traditional products and explain how methods of food preservation developed over the centuries. The restoration of various parts of the typical home provides an opportunity to find out about traditional eating habits and visitors can learn more through explanations in dialect and role-plays. In mountain areas such as Introd, where the land is barren for long periods and cannot be cultivated all-year-round, people could only settle after having developed the necessary resources to survive between one harvest and the next. They had to study methods for preserving food using various natural and chemical factors such as: a cold climate, salting, drying, smoking, storing without air or light.
